CASE STUDIES
OIG Analytics Center of Excellence
To enhance oversight and investigative capabilities, i3 designed and implemented the Analytics Center of Excellence for the Office of Inspector General (OIG). Using advanced IT infrastructure and analytical tools, the center uncovered over 2,500 potential fraud networks valued at $15 billion, revolutionizing fraud detection across the Federal Government.
Challenge
Over $3.5 trillion in emergency aid was provided to individuals, businesses, and state and local governments during the Coronavirus Pandemic. Unfortunately, countless bad actors took advantage of this situation and committed unprecedented levels of fraud. The OIG requires innovative IT, data management, and advanced analytics solutions to detect, investigate, and prevent fraud. The solution must be adaptable to emerging threats, capable of handling vast records from diverse data sources, and providing insights through automation and visualization.
Solution and Results
i3 designed and implemented a comprehensive data analytics platform capable of ingesting and analyzing billions of records to detect financial fraud. The system leverages advanced Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML) technologies to generate insights. i3 also:
-
Provided investigative and forensic services to support fraud detection and prosecution initiatives.
-
Integrated and deployed industry leading analytics tools (Databricks, Neo4j, ESRI, i2) on Microsoft Azure cloud.
-
Leveraged the SAFe Agile framework for expedient software updates and delivery.
-
Deployed advanced data visualization capabilities that can analyze billions of records and provide actionable intelligence in seconds.
-
Provided OIG partners with self-service capabilities through Microsoft Power BI to access and analyze oversight data.
-
Developed advanced AI/ML models (using both supervised and unsupervised learning) to enhance fraud detection capabilities.
"You are the best! Thank you so much for this data analysis. What you guys did in a couple of months would have taken us years.”
